WWWII ideas
« on: July 12, 2012, 05:56:30 AM »
Hey all,
New to the forum and wish to say hello and ask for some ideas or maybe start a continued discussion about the subject.  I just received my much anticipated order of Dust Tactics mini's and Warfare rules, and must say they look great. The only problem I have with the Dust mini's is they look TO super science for WWII, IMO.  I like the look of some of the walkers and the regular troops but the exo armour, seem a little 40Kish to me.
So it got me thinking of my attempts to do WWWII in 15mm.  I picked up some GearKrieg mini's a while back, and though I don't care for the Secondary Movement system/transformable AFV idea, I do like the idea of walkers.  I was thinking of redesigning the legs on the DP9 Gearkrieg walkers to look more like the the legs of some of the Dust mini's,which seems plausible for the time.
I also want to incorporate some of the experimental/prototype AFV's like Maus, and the A39 Tortoise.  Luckily some, like a few of the German E series, are already being done.
But when it comes to regular infantry, I'd like to do something, just not sure what.  I like what Dust has done with their infantry, having chest and shoulder armour, but I don't like the strapped on steel.  I also want to put some of the real science in action like the German NVG.
I like the idea of power armour/exo suits, something like West Wind's British and Russian Armoured suits or the A.P.E suits.  I know that Eureka makes the Sci-Fi Germans but I want to do something unique, and for all nations.
So this is where I need your help.  Throw some ideas out there, have a real discussion on what would work.  Infantry, weapons, tech.  I'm interested in the plausible, Tesla, Zombies, rocket troops maybe even nuclear powered stuff or werwulves.
Thanks for your help.

Welcome.

I agree with your feelings on DT, the year is 1947 and everyone has lasers seems a little "off" to me...

Rules wise, Secrets of The Third Reich sounds like it may be down your alley, might be worth checking out as it has "normal" infantry, mechs and tanks like the Maus and JS3.

For alternate minis, try Pulp Miniatures or maybe look at Warlord's modular head system.

Myself, I have a British Commando Platoon lead by the 7th Doctor, a Latverian Axis force, more Brits lead by Union Jack, pulp Yanks with SGT's Kelly and Fury and a mutant German Army with Red Skull and Arnim Zola.

Hope some of that helps.

werwulf - welcome to LAF. You won't find a more friendly forum than this.

I've started a thread similar to yours some days ago:

And guess what? I did it because I've also received my Dust Tactics initial box  :D
