Getting figures out of Milliput?

I have several regments of GNW Swedes (6mm) based in milliput - did these a long while ago and want to update them, repaint them, base them the same way as I have my Russians. Given the fragile nature of 6mm, does anyone have any idea how I might get them out of milliput? Is there any way of softening it at all? Or is it gong to be some sort of chisel job?

What is the base made of?

If plastic (with Milliput on top), it may be possible to flex the base enough to crack the Milliput off, freeing the figures.

Otherwise, you may just have to carefully cut/chisel them out!

Give Nitromors (oter products are available but I can't remember the names  ) a go. It should soften up the milliput enough and won't damage the figures.

When did you last try this please?

AFAIK, the formulation of Nitromors was changed sometime around last summer, and the new stuff just isn't as virulent good as the more dangerous older stuff.

I'd be interested to know as I do strip and recycle lots of old figs, and have yet to test the new formula on putties.

Apparently, cheap acetone (smelly nail polish remover) will dissolve Milliput if you give the model in question a good bath in for a few days. However, the stuff will also destroy any plastics, so watch out for that if your models have any plastic parts.

I'd suggest acetone too. I've used it with greenstuff to good effect,  though as Major Gilbear says watch any plastics. I guess Nitromors would have the same effect on plastics as well.

Thanks - fortunately it's just the milliput and basing stuff as the figures are all metal. I've used nitromors to do figures, never had much success with acetone nail polish remover though for some reason, but I'll give both a try and see what happens. Since I want to strip the figures anyway getting the paint off at the same time is handy anyway.
