British blue
« on: 30 July 2012, 08:51:03 AM »
Hi,
in the pictures of Ugo Pericoli I found in the book "1815 The Armies at Waterloo", it seems to me that the shades of blue uniforms of the British army is different from that of the French.
Someone please tell me if the french and british blue were actually different, in which case could he to suggest me what colors should I use of the Valleyo series, respectively for the blue of the French and the British one (Hussars, Light Dragoons, Artillery, coat of Wellington, etc.. )?
Thank you.

The French blue had a grey hue, which came out ever more the more they faded. The British looks more like a true blue to me. I plan to use Prussian Blue and Dark Prussian blue for them and a dark blue I mixed myself for new ACW Union coats (which is a little darker still) when it come to officers .

Hi, many thanks for your answer.
Looking at the images of drawings by Ugo Pericoli, I feel rather the opposite to yours, namely that the French uniforms are a more purest blue, while the British it seems to have a gradient towards the "aviation blue", with a percentage of gray.
Cheers!
