Is their more detail on this great figure than the normal?
It looks to me that the sculptor given his soul for this fig.

You could call them that, yes. Generally speaking, the Armée d'Afrique troops were among the toughest and most experienced in the French army in the 19th century. As such, they were often used outside of North Africa wherever crack troops were needed, from Mexico to modern Vietnam.
