Victorian Shop work in progress

Having been inspired by the excellent work on here by thunderchicken and others I decided to have a go at my own Victorian terrain starting with a shop, so far I've just done the front of the shop just the painted sign on front wall to do. Not sure about sides and back yet sort of making it up as I go along.

Pretty odd way of doing it to my mind though   I could never have painted the one piece to completion without doing the rest first BUT then again why not?

That's an impressive start orm1. What materials are you using?

Side you could leave pretty plain, perhaps with some guttering. As for the back, the Victorians did like their outhouses, scullery, kitchen, privvies etc. If you really want to go for it the chances are buildings with this style frontage would probably have a slanted roof perpendicular to the front.

Thunderchicken-I used plastic card and balsa wood for the main shop front, the first floor is all card (I was looking for some brick sheets in the right scale but got impatient and used card)

Your's and Pappa midnight's buildings are my inspiration and have tried to take what I can from them. I was looking at Victorian shops deciding what kind of shop it would be, hoping to find some tools and things to put at the front as photos of Ironmongers I saw had their stuff outside on show.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

For brick work I use embossed plastic sheets from Plastikard or South East Finecast, go for 7mm brickwork as it works fine with 28mm (I'm assuming that's the scale you're building to). Pappa Midnight uses a different technique altogether, he scores the brickwork into blue foam, I havent tried it yet but I'll give it a bash when I have more time. Look up work by Overlord too, he uses the same method.

For building inspiration I get it all from this forum; Overlord, Svennn, Pappa Midnight, AndyM, Malamute, Jimbibbly, gamerMac...... I could go on.

For the buildings themselves I trawl books, the net or go for an explore around London. If you cant do it in person there's always Google Streetview.

Little bit more done had to dig the garden today  but got that done and got back to more pleasing work  added sides and back no detail yet, also finished the painted sign on front of building.

What dimension would you make the back yard, also what size are pavements?
