Well, reporter has some chances to survive, although they are very small.
He and cameraman will be mission objectives for saving by survivors.

We will use homemade rules, which were made long time ago for our postapoc gaming.Modified with addition of zombie mechanics from these rules: http://www.wargamevault.com/product/90232/Pike-%26-Shot-%26-Zombies
These rules handle zombie horde quite well.
