I played my first 2 games of T&T today, having received the rules on Thursday.
For the first game we used the "Ivory Gauntlet" scenario from the Crisis '07 scenario pack:The Ivory Hunters moved towards the river. The mercenaries went ahead to scout a suitable crossing point and secure it for the heroic Sir Stanley and his bearers.
Just as they reached the riverbank they were ambushed by natives hiding on the opposite bank who showered them in arrows. 4 of their number succumed to the lethal rain.
Sir Stanley led the bearers downriver in the hope of a safer crossing. But as they prepared to cross a second group of native warriors came splashing across the shallow river.
He waited for the last moment before blasting them with his shotgun. A couple fell but it was too late.
The bearers bravely decided to try and stop the natives, leaping to the attack before they were themselves charged.
The melee was quick and bloody. The bearers bodies washed downstream with too few of their opponents.
The 2 remaining mercenaries had meanwhile recovered enough to begin a desultry fire against the bowmen, slowly exacting their revenge.
But again it was too late. Sir Stanley bravely fought the natives swarming around him before they beat him to the ground unconscious and carried his body back across the bloody river.
Hopelessly outnumbered the mercenaries slid away into the jungle, emerging weeks later at a mission station starving and in rags......
The second game was the "Last Stand At Buro Falls" scenario:News of the capture of Sir Stanley was met with outrage. Forces were dispatched to bring those responsible to account.
A lack of preparation meant a column led was itself cut of, outnumbered, and so prepared a defence led by Major Dennis Bloodnok.
The naives began with a slow ineffective fire against one half of the compound, their Arab masters hiding in the shadows.
Major Bloodnok responded immediately, leading a second unit of Askari towards the side of the perimeter under attack as the field gun boomed in reply.
The explosions shocked the natives into a charge in two positions, as a sniper began to slowly pick off the defenders.
The rifles of the Askari brought down some of the tribesmen as the ran forward, but not enough.
As they reached the barricades the field gun tried desperately to engage them. A catastrophy ensued as the breech exploded, killing 2 crew and 1 native.
As the first natives lept over the barricades and hacked the Askari there to pieces, Major Bloodnok and the other Askaris received the charge of another group of warriors, spurred on by a wizened old man.
The onslaught was devastating. Bloodnok, the sole survivor, ran for his life. The stunned crew of the field gun tried to follow but were quickly caught in the tide of warriors and perished.
As Bloodnok ran across the clearing ahead of him he saw a small unit of soldiers, speeding in the dirction of the gunfire.
He quickly took control of the reinforcements and set up a firing line as the natives swarmed towards them.
The measured fire of their Martini Henrys brought one native group to a halt. Almost too late they realised the Arabs had outflanked them and closed to melee.
They were no match for cold British steel, despit a hard fight.
Before they had a chance to regroup the other natives smashed into them, cutting the soldiers down.
Major Dennis Bloodnok considered his fate as he was carried away on their shoulders. After what seemed an eternity they emerged into a native village.
A familiar voice rang out,
"Is that you Bloodnok.......?----------------------------------------------------------------
Overall the games were fun.
The first game didnt last very long at all and I think it would be very hard for the Ivory Hunters to acheive their objective.
It was however a good little scenario with a few units to get used to the game mechanics.
The second game was great fun, despite losing again! :freak:
This was mainly due to my inability to shoot many natives down as they headed for the compound.
The rules were fairly quick to pick up, my opponent hadn't even seen the rulebook before today!
There were a few things we wern't sure about, but just guessed  I will post a couple of queries in a seperate thread.
And before anyone asks........no I didnt take any pictures, I forgot my camera
