Maks melusines
« on: 24 May 2008, 11:45:02 AM »
Hi folks, this must be the first stuff i have posted in about a year on here as ive been away from the painting desk.... anyway, these are my first batch of melusines, i could use them for www2 or far future, so ive kept markings down to just numbers, the pilots are westwind heads, german, but no distinguishing markings so again can be used for the far future...anyway here are the pics...

Really, really nice. A great colour choice and your decision on markings is well justified. Nice baseing too.

I have a load of the SAFs which I always preferred but I think now I will definately have to add some of these.

Very Nice  ;) , I too have some of these still awaiting a paint job!

Did you find the plastic joints were a bit perished? I think i will be drilling and pinning all of mine for safety.

Very nice. I painted a couple of SAFs for Alt WW2 a while ago, but the oils in the plastic seem to have leeched through the paint, making the surface glossy als sticky. Can anyone suggest the best way to or remedy this on my painted models and top avoid this when I paint my next batch?

Bullshott it sounds like you'll need to strip the models and scrub them to get the oil off the plastic. Thats if it is a mold release the factory painted over. That doesn't help you with kits that are already repainted!
If it's actually coming from inside the plastic I don't think there is anything you can do, it will "weep" for a long time. It might even undermine your paint jobs.
Keep your head  up though, Hasegawa got the license and is now reproducing the SF3D kits in 1/20 and rumored 1/35 so you'll be able to get your favorite kits in good plastic at your FLHS. Their first release is in December with the Falke: http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/nrb/NRB2.html

i didnt have any trouble with mine, i made sure i washed all the pieces in soapy water, then i used enamels for a base coat, acrylics the rest of the way, followed by Rowney matt varnish, i did one a couple of years back and found it a bit tacky when touched, but it seemed to vanish after a varnish

They look great.

Are they all glued in place, or did you leave any parts articulated (hatches, for example)?

With kits like these I always find it tough to decide if I'm making a toy or a toy soldier...   o_o

I got mine off ebay. Straight from Japan. Look for AT-43 style boxes with 5 of them in it.

There appear to be two basic suit-types.
