Kids, don't paint under the influenze
« on: March 13, 2008, 11:14:35 AM »
...of influenza:

I am at the end of my WWII British Navy, and since it can be a bit of a drag to paint 25 miniatures with little variation in uniform I did the most boring first (riflemen) saved the choisest morsels for last (the officers). Now, since navy uniforms are, by general acclaim from the authorities, in a deep, deep blackish blue (also known as 'navy blue' or 'marine') I developed a scale going from VGC Black, Reaper Blue Black, VMC Dark Preussian Blue, VMC Preussian Blue and finally a mix of VGC Elf Grey+VMC Preussian Blue+a smidgen of black. Since the blues and hilites came out a little too bright I took it all down one notch again by applying a thin glace of Vallejo Air Black. It worked a treat for the first two batches of sailors; they certainly got that right club blazer nuance. Then yesterday I did the officers and it all turned to shit. I had just emptied my acrylic dillutant and mixed a new homemade batch. I used this for the black glace and due to fever and headache and having my head up my rear in general terms I did not test the black glace properly. The officers now look like coal merchants with guns.

I fu-king hate stripping down minis and start over.

Sorry to hear you are not well. Get better soon. Probably best to leave the figures for a day or too until your fever calms down

Nightmare. Sorry to hear you're not too good.

Make yourself a nice hot drink, put your feet up and watch a stack of dvds until you feel better. Painting can wait a day or two.

funny i should come across this thread today. i've been feeling a bit fluey the past couple of days and yesterday i decided to take a break from painting a couple of gunfighters, and paint one of my arnica buildings instead. aside from the constantly watering eyes and splitting headache i carried on regardless. first off i couldn't get the browns to the shades i wanted, then i dropped the damn thing and chipped the corner off the boardwalk. instead of calling it a day there and then, i pressed on. after about an hour more of painting, the whole thing just looks like a turd sandwich. now i'll have to strip it and start again when i'm better  :(
definately DON'T paint when you're ill !!
Minor skin grafts can be performed on pigs by covering any cuts and grazes with thin strips of bacon.
