Cheap Stacks of Boxes
« on: December 08, 2012, 12:08:59 AM »
On a trip to the Dollar Tree store today, I stumbled across some cheap Rubics Cubes.  I saw some potential...

I didn't bother with trying to take off the stickers on each cube.  Instead, I primed them black after gluing some card to the bottom of each one to cut down on the cubes moving...

Then I used the airbrush to lay down some Vallejo US Olive Drab Surface Primer...

Some Vallejo Model Air Hemp served as the highlight...

I could have stopped there, but they needed a little something more.  A quick triangle cut into some spare card did the trick...

I think the Vallejo Model Air Light Sea Blue is a great accent.  Love those great cheap finds for terrain!

That's great work. so effective.
As an extra bonus. however you turn the cube now you've always won!!!! (even though you stopped them moving)

Suggestions:

* Use a scalpel to cut electrician's tape into very thin strips, then "strap" the stack of boxes together. That's what we do in the warehouse to keep even stable loads from shifting.

* Print and apply some barcode labels - in the grimdark future (or the shinybright future) all things will be barcoded. :)

Great find, and a great application!
