Steam 'planes'
« on: December 24, 2012, 01:03:38 AM »
I set up a poll a while ago asking the question whether people would use none neff flyers in their games, the results are in the link below but the basic answer was yes...

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=34238.0

So, I've made a couple of mock ups of the sort of thing I'm thinking of. Still a lot of kinks to iron out and some of the basic designing needs tweaking but I'm quite happy with them bearing in mind they are sketch models.

The first one is a one/two man reconnaissance flyer with a single maxim. I've been told it looks a bit pulpy but I'm sure with a few little changes it would look more VSF. Apologies for the blurry picture but the first image has the 'plane' facing to the left so the small aero foil is at the front.

The second is a larger, heavier armed flyer that's more for direct contact with the enemy. The layout needs changing to fit more in and the props need raising up but the basic principles are there. The wings need a bit more doing to their shape and the figure is on a 25mm base.

Now I'm not promising anything but I do intend on making these into kits for sale... :D

cheers

James

I tend to only accept them as nasty, quirky beasts with low lifting power. Recce, of course, and light weaponry, maybe, but these look over-gunned to me.

About the sting of a mosquito, and as easy to swat, sounds right.

I haven't worked through the poll thread yet, others may wish the invincible air arm of late WWII, I suppose.

how do they return to earth?

Rapidly - and probably into the sewage works next to Benny Hill's windmill....

In the larger one who steers the craft and in both cases how do they return to earth?

Still working on the steering but it'll probably be a bloke at the back, on a chair with steering yokes or some such and both will have skids with the possibility of very small wheels in them but undecided as to the wheels yet.

thanks for the responses chaps but expect anything soon, I've got a fair amount that's further up the list to do first  :D

cheers

Make the Maxim a Gatling, Gardner, or Nordenfelt and I would like it better.   :?

Just saying.   ::)

Gracias,

Glenn
