Vanvlak's Tyranids and Genestealers
« on: 04 January 2015, 10:33:05 AM »
Long, long ago in a gaming club far, far away (but only 20 minutes from my home) I dreamt of a force of Tyranids which had different examples captured and experimented on by the Ordo Xenos of the Inquisition, who tried to turn them into controlled bioweapons to use against the orks and Chaos. Things went predictably badly and a converted warrior managed to call up a dormant genestealer manifestation, freeing all the 'zoo'...
Here are the results of that old foray, some glossy and badly painted; they will be incorporated in the new force.

The experimented-on metapatriarch and 3 lictors (note the el cheapo version hidden in soft sand, only the top of his head can be seen...  >:D )

A hive tyrant, Carnifex (the arms were intentionally glues in that orientation, read for a charge a la Juggernaught), and the small fry.

Stealers and co. - the one front left is not badly painted, just defocused!

This grew up from something somebody planted.....

I love it!  I just started bringing up some of my old-school tyranids to have as an opponent for my Grymn, especially the conversions where I added bug-eyes and antenna...

I like these old stealers, they have some really nice appeal.

This plant, is it something scratch built?

Thanks guys.
Prof, I wish that were something from my Scavenging rubbish post, but it's actually a Forgeworld model, a Spore Chimney - the texture on this is brilliant, and it paints up to good standard very easily.

Nice story goes with this: my wife had bought it for me as a Christmas present years back, and it disappeared from circulation. My wife wrote to them, and they said they had shipped on time, but promptly sent a replacement. A couple of days later the replacement arrived, closely followed by the original (which must have followed it's twin, Hive Mind thing I guess). She wrote to FW to pay for the 2nd arrival or return it, and they very nicely told her not to bother and keep it free.
This actually happened again with a Tau Barracuda. I have to say I have nothing but good words to say for the Forgeworld blokes; and any of their stuff I have (mostly pressies from the wife  :-* ) are of high quality.
