"Swatters" (Ganesha Games bug hunt) Playtests.
« on: February 14, 2013, 12:35:03 PM »

I started playtesting "Swatters", the squad based bug-hunt rules from the Song of Blades and Heroes people a couple of weeks ago.  It happened out of the blue, so I had little time to prepare, but I did get a whole load of CD based movement trays textured and painted up last week.

The games have required that various players in my group dig out their old Tyranid models and the like.  While all of us have unpainted Colonial Marines projects, none of us currently have suitable USMC/MI/IG models available, so some Eldar from a couple of our collections were drafted in the Marine role.

The game rules have proven fun so far and digging out old figures that havent been played with for a decade has been great.  I play skirmish games pretty much exclusively these days, bugt I have to admit that it has been fun moving larger numbers of figures around again.

The photos are simple and the terrain pretty straightforward, but they are decent documentation of a slightly retro but very enjoyable couple of weeks gaming.  Some of you might enjoy taking a quick look :)

I am recording the various bits and pieces connected with Swatters on my blog.  There will be more added over the next few weeks as the project gets closer to completion.

Looks fun, but couldn't Mutants and Death Ray Guns be used for this?

It's possibly been discussed on the Yahoo group - I should pay more attention!
Waiter, my soup is giggling.

Not on this scale -- remember every movement tray has a full unit of soldiers/warriors.  MADRG has single movement, Swatters has tray movement.

Swatters covers squads rather than individuals as MDRG does.

Also MDRG doesnt use a points system as MDRG is more of a campaign system for post apoc gaming.  Swatters uses points and force lists.

Swatters is also designed to represent a specific theatre of war, that being the theatre where cocksure humans get overrun by giant insectile killing machines ;)

Technically most rule sets can be used to represent most settings, but its fun to have dedicated rules/units/scenarios too. I have been having good fun with this ruleset :)
