Roman Artillery

Just reading Scarrow's "Eagle's Conquest", quite at the beginning of the book, where the Romans are preparing for the battle against Caratacus on the fortified opposite bank of the river. The Ninth legion is crossing the river supported by spear throwers and catapults on the triremes launching fire projectiles. Great scene, I'm quite exited!

Of course now I would love to get some stuff like this Any hints on nice 28mm Roman artillery pieces?

as far as I know only Grand Manner makes 28mm triremes but I can't afford the price at the moment.

Between Foundry's Perry-sculpted scorpios and Warlord's range, there's a good selection of the smaller pieces which could be mounted on naval vessels.

It just struck me, arriving back from an evening's gaming, and shooing a hedgehog off the drive so I could park the car, that some of my artillery photos are on my photobucket site...

One of the things I love about Romans being such a popular option is you can get access to all kinds of support figures. A full artillery train, marching poses, camp followers, officials etc...

Makes for some amazing board displays when you get the whole range out. Good looking stuff there Phil.
