30mm Discworld Miniatures- Ridcully, Vimes & Nobby
« on: 09 August 2013, 03:36:56 PM »
I thought I'd landed on cloud 9 when I found these a few years ago! Made by MicroArt Studios, and based on Paul Kidby's illustrations, I think they're pretty much bang on! The figures themselves aren't that cheap (not quite GW, but heading there- Detritus is over £30 and doesn't even look that huge...), and the range is ever expanding, so looks like i'll need to keep working overtime...

Arch-Chancellor Mustrum Ridcully

Commander Sir Samuel Vimes

Corporal Nobby Nobbs

I sculpted on some mail to the shoulders to fit in with Kidby's illustrations (and my own idea of how the armour looked from the description in the books) on the City Watch Figures, and because for some reason the sculptor has given Vimes sergeant's stripes (getting confused with keel, perhaps...?)

very impressed with the standard of sculpting and moulding, got Sgt Colon, Sybil Vimes and Errol the dragon sitting in the "to-do" pile...

Cheers
Iain.

Nice job on the paint. Did you custom make the bases?

I've started work on some of the Wolsung miniatures from Micro Arts. Amazing quality. I was impressed that they mold in pins and deep drill holes in their joints.

Very nice!
I've got an ancient Rincewind figure I got with a PC game...I should get it painted some day.

Lovely paint jobs on some cracking figures :-* :-* :-*
I loved these figures but I couldn't justify buying them. Do you game with them?

Cheers for the comments, guys!

@Frogimus: yup, MicroArt seem to have their game down to a T. I made the bases to match the surroundings for the diffent characters- Ridcully's was just a standard Rural (or at least the Universtity grounds!) one with sand and static grass and some foliage, but the Watch figures had cobblestones made out of greenstuff, grit, and some water made from PVA and Tamiya clear paints in Nobby's case, to represent the grimier aspect of the areas of Ankh-Morpork where they'd be found...

@Froggy The Great: was that the old RPG with Eric Idle as the voice of Rincewind by any chance?  :D

@ Gamer Mac: No, they were bought primarily just to be painted, I'd struggle to find a game system or opponent to game with them, to be honest. Once I've got all the Watch figures, i suppose you could shohorn them into a game of Mordheim or something...

Cheers
Iain.

Very characterful. A skirmish game based on Discworld characters would be great fun.

There's a great cut out book for the unseen university that could work as a backdrop/scenery for these little guys.

I think the scale is a bit off. Maybe you could scan and reprint it.

The Pratchett Lads look SPLENDID...especially Nobby. You did an OUTSTANDING job bringing them to life...GREAT brushwork & basing.

If the flavor of the setting could be captured, a Disc World Game could be a blast to play.

Cheers guys, comments appreciated! The sculpting on the figures really helps out, they practically paint themselves, I have to say...

Cheers
Iain.
