Looking for SAS embassy siege models
« on: January 18, 2015, 04:24:24 PM »
I'm looking for some 28mm miniatures that resemble the SAS troops who participated in the Iranian Embassy siege, balaclavas and gasmasks but not helmets. I'm using these as generic counter terrorism forces so the weapons do not have to be MP5s if miniatures of this type are only available with different types of weapons. I know of a lot of SWAT style troops in helmets but I would much prefer ones wearing just gasmasks and balaclavas. I should also mention that I live in the UK so if possible ones from a UK based or UK stocked manufacturer would be best.
Thanks in advance

Eureka? perhaps Tag, Hasslefree or some kind of conversion between wargames factory zombiehunters and some ww2 infantry.

anevilgiraffe did some excellent SAS conversions from the TAG SWAT range. Here's the post of the finished figures from his excellent blog: http://anevilgiraffe.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/who-dares-wins.html

I believe he used Eureka SWAT gas mask heads and green stuff after decapitating the TAG SWAT guys.

Alternatively, there's the excellent X-Commandos from Crooked Dice, but again, they'll need respirator and flash-hood heads adding. Crooked Dice do an open faced balaclava head. Perhaps a respirator could be modelled over the face with green stuff?

There was a range of modern British police commissioned by another forum member called Urban Beat that included some SAS troopers kitted out for the Princess Gate siege. Those would be ideal.  Sold to Wessex Games apparently.

Other options:

Eureka's SWAT range. Multipose figures with MP5 and options for balaclava and gas mask head combo.

Offensive Miniatures do a range of SWAT but I suspect they are too modern and most of them are in kevlar helmets.

Now, if you want to do this in grand style. Airfix have the perfect figures in 1/32.

Brooks models did some - although I don't think they ever went back into production when Old glory UK bought the range back out....

SHQ have some that were the old Chiltern Miniatures

http://www.shqminiatures.co.uk/Ranges/25mmModern/25mmModernmain.php?UID=2015012013312586.185.29.104

I've read that they're very bulky and don't mix particularly well with other figures.

I'd warn folk off the SHQ miniatures ones, they're very blobby and disappointing.

Thanks for the nod Earther. We have an SAS gasmask Sprue being sculpted for the X-Commandoes at the moment too.
