Sheets of Green stuff.
« on: September 28, 2013, 08:49:59 PM »
Any tips on getting green stuff into sheets?

I need it around 0.5mm as i need to cut shapes and lettering out of it for an embossed flag... unless someone knows of an easier way to make embossed flags that can be vulcanised.

Cheers

You could apply GS to a tin sheet (just flatten out an empty tube of mustard or glue for this). That's how I tried my first embossed flags.
Far less active than I used to...

Cut them from brass? At that thickness it should be pretty easy, depending on how small they are of course.
So many projects..... so little time.......

I rolled mine out on a clean flat surface (a flexible cutting board in my case), just like pastry. I used a smooth modelling knife handle as a rolling pin and dusted it and the surface with a tiny bit of talc. When the greenstuff was dry I just peeled it off.

It's really useful stuff.

I've made a bunch of flags & banners with super-thin green stuff and just pressed it flat onto scrap plastic, then used an Xacto handle as a mini rolling pin as someone else upthread did.

Definitely my favourite banner/flag making material; I did about six various flags & banners up last time I broke out the green stuff, so I have a few stockpiled for future use.

For an exact .5mm sheet, use two sheets of .5mm plastic.  Put your blob of putty between them and then use a roller over the .5mm surfaces to flatten the putty.  A couple of suggestions.  First use wax paper under the putty.  That way the putty will not stick to the bottom surface.  Second use plenty of water or Vaseline on the .5mm sheets and the roller.  Hope that helps.
