I am not disrespecting the SMLE at all, it is a very fine weapon. When we wrote the rules we just chose to go with the slightly older, better known weapon at the time, than the new kid on the block. Soldiers do tend to prefer tried and tested to new and shiny.

Against yer Dervish or Zulu, if you have to make a single shot count before he is on top of you, a single-shot rifle firing a.45 calibre bullet suddenly makes a lot of sense

You don't get a "Mad Minute" without a magazine rifle.  That will do for charging indigs far better than a single shot Martini Henry (as the lads at Islandwhalla found out, to their regret).

Given that some of my figures are carrying arc rifles or wearing personal Chobham armour then arguments about the type of ordinary rifle seem a little arcane. Perhaps in 1895 v2, troops retained the Martini because its better range and penetration allowed a soldier to have a better chance of stopping the arc rifleman before being converted into fried sausage.

Anyone have an idea how these would match up with Ironclads figures? Size and style wise that is.

They're a bit bigger but not enough to prevent me using them together. I'd probably keep them in separate units though, not so much for the size but the Mike Owen ones are more animated than the Ironclad ones.
