Blood for the Blood God technical paint

is it worth getting? Can I get the same effect with say Flesh Tearers contrast and a load of medium?

I'd recommend Tamiya x-27 clear red instead if you aren't committed to using GW paints.

But yes you could just mix any amount of red paint into a gloss medium/varnish and use that - that was the norm before GW made a specific blood paint.

Its decent, but my go to is Tamiya clear red for fresh blood spatter. You might be able to get the same effect with contrast and medium, but I doubt it

I like the Dirty Down rust effect...used it for the first time and was pleased.
