3-D Dungeon Building
« on: 08 March 2014, 06:16:41 PM »
I started building some 3-D Dungeon tiles - rooms and corridors and such.

First bit finished:

A Corner!?

Yes, a corridor corner bit... I'm not sure WHY i started with a corridor corner bit, but I did.... It seemed like a good idea at the time...

DANGER lurks behind each corner in a dungeon!

There are more pictures and a bit of rambling about the process on my blog:

More to follow.

Great piece! The painted stones look quite realistic, but what an immense workload, wasn't it?  :-*

Thanks!

Yes, I have to admit, it took a LONG time to paint that little corridor... I'm not really looking forward to painting entire rooms... But I know it will look fabulous when it's all done!

I love the look.  Might I suggest hooking up with a laser cutting service.  You might be able to setup a nice plastic template where the stones are cut out and then spray gray paint through it.  You'd still have to pick up the high lights, but then again, a second template could be made for that too.

I hope to see more.

Individually painted stones! That is just insane. I would loose my mind doing that. Especially to that standard.

I am sure the end result will look great.

that's great! i was thinking about another solution, why don't you just print the stones on paper and glue it? If done properly, i assume that the look might be just the same =)

Or...perhaps another suggestion - use some of those molded plastic sheets with the stone texture on them?  Cut to size, spray black, dry-brush?  It looks really good, but agreed it looks like it took a long time!  lol

Hmmm, what about finding a texture you like online and printing colour paper on good card stock, glue to the foam?

This is really cool, the painted stones are amazing.  I admire your dedication.

If you check my Flickr site I used brick sheets for mine.  You can buy cobbelstone ones too.  That being said, stick with it, it looks great!

Nice, but I cannot imagine how long it will take to complete a decent amount of tiles  lol

My dungeon took ages to be completed, and the paint process was a lot simplier !

You achieved a very three dimensional look! I am impressed. I can imagine how long it takes and I might be as crazy as you are in having enough patients to do something like this. It depends a bit how big you want your Dungeon to be. If you plan a massive one you might be better off with a three dimensional stone pattern you can then drybrush.
