Trees
« on: 02 July 2008, 04:59:50 AM »
Hi folks,

As I always seem to find that my Wargaming Budget is never as high as I would like I often find that I have to build my own scenery.
I have always had problems with making trees that
A) Are a decent size for Skirmish games
B) Look reasonable
C) Dont take forever or cost the earth

Anyway I originally came up with this

Pretty huge really so not brilliant.

Anyway the next looked like this

and the two together showing a difference in size

The figure is there for scale and is a 28mm Westwind figure, I think from the Sleepy Hollow range.

Anyway folks I was just after a little feedback on which look better.

Cheers all

They look great!  What did you use to make them?

They look like coarse steel wool, painted and flocked. Which also happens to be how I do mine.

I like both so I'm not sure which you should go with. Did you spray paint them before flocking?

They are just bits of dowel with rubberised horse hair stuck on then covered in flock.

Nope i didnt spray paint them before flocking as the rubberised hair is anice brown colour anyway.

Rubberized horse hair. Someone is missing part of their upolstery. Raiding MG's for the filling?

Nice project.

Grimm,

Sorry about the self promotion but we can suppy it, although we are located in Australia: http://www.freewebs.com/mbtandt/wargamingterrain.htm

Alternately, Antenociti's Workshop in the UK sells it which I believe would probably work out cheaper for you: http://www.barrule.com/workshop/scratch%20builders%20paradise/trees,%20arbres,%20baume.html

Cheers,

They are just bits of dowel with rubberised horse hair stuck on then covered in flock.

What did yhou do to the dowels of the second variant to make them look more 'tree-like'?

I used a hot glue gun to add on roots  ;)

I like 'em... and far as size go they both look really good.  I think a mix of different heights makes for a more natural look.
