Nice figures Gnomehome, who makes them? And how do you get such crisp colours on your photo? Mine looks washed out. I wish I could photograph better!

The figures are wargames Foundry. As for photography - I use a Canon Powershot 240 (on the 'Easy mode' - no fiddling about with specific settings) and plenty of light.

I had intended taking mine outside to photo after missing the opportunity Friday night after work. Guess what, it was missing it down Saturday morning so that put an end to that idea. Hopefully I'm getting my wife's camera next week if she remembers to bring it back from work!

Here's an overview of my 'setup'

Two painting lamps at the sides, shining through a semi-transparant foam I've taped into the openings of the foam packaging and a led lamp overhead.

Both excellent entries here, good show gents!

My guess is that light isn't your problem, but saturation and vibrancy. Also in that picture it looks like the exposure might be a little high.

The easiest way to fiddle with that stuff is after you've taken the picture in a photo editing app. Just mess with the image adjustments until the colour reflects reality. Start with exposure, brightness, and contrast, and then go to vibrance and saturation settings!

Thanks
n.

Thanks for the tips guys. The annoying thing is that the photo looks reasonable once taken, then I resize it to 800x800 or a max of 800 in width or length and it looks much poorer, then it appears online and it looks even worse. I'll stick some of the originals on my Old West thread after this round.

Also, if you can get a tripod (mini ones are really cheap), so that you can slow the exposure down to a couple seconds or so on a timer, then that helps, too. The diffused light that gnomehome is getting through his foam is key, too. I created my own lightbox which is essentially a dowel rod frame with white cloth draped over it on the top and all sides except one. Multiple light sources are directed at it from all sides (except the open front), which prevents shadows or glare.

These both look good to me...nice work boys.

Elk...where I believe you need a light is from the front...I hold a desk lamp like this...with a long daylight fluorescent bulb right over my camera...with light coming from the same place as the photo is taken it fills the front of the figure with light and eliminates shadow.

Other than that your set up looks very effective.

Cheers,

Blue

Thanks Blue. I can't help feeling disappointed with the photo, but no one to blame but me! I'll try that for next week. Im working on the terrain for next week now. I've bitten off more than I can chew with the lpl but it is getting me painting and that's the main thing!

No worries - you've still managed to take a solid lead in votes. The 'mediocre five' have prevailed - congrats.

I've noticed that my pictures change a little between when I hand them off and when they end up on the forum as well... I've been increasing my vibrance and saturation a little more to compensate. It hasn't produced perfect results, but it's improving!

Thanks
