Arcworlde?
« on: 17 October 2015, 01:43:56 PM »
Probably a bit late on this bandwagon.. But Frostgrave has sent me off on a fantasy tangent lately and I came across Arcworlde from a few different sources.

Visually it works for me, and the scale of the game is appealing. But, has anyone played the rules yet that could give me a quick overview?

Any links to reviews?

Thanks guys.  :D
Ray.

As one who backed the original KS, the rulebook is supposed to finally be on its way to me... about 1.5 years late.  The miniatures came in about a year ago, but I  haven't had much inspiration to give them a go since the rulebook was soo ridiculously behind schedule.  Not sure I will ever actually use it once it arrives, but I will probably give it a read at least...

Got my rulebook last week.

The closest analogy I can think of would be 'Malifaux' mixed with 'Mordheim' for the rules. The game combines card, which can be used in specific circumstances to alter results, and dice, which are used in all other circumstances.

The rules are very simple. You roll a six-sided die, add or subtract according to circumstances and stats. 4+ is a success and less is failure. Natural 1s always fail, natural 6s always succeed.

The army lists are fun, but surprisingly short. There aren't many variations of units to use, which is a pity as those there are are interesting.

Games are centered around scenarios. It is very much a narrative game, where a specific scenario's goals are an important part of playing the games. Straight up 'Pitched Battles' are possible, but not the focus of the game at all, making it different from many large-scale games.

Super-quic overview here, just ask if there's anything specific you were thinking of.

I pledged on the kickstarted massacre level £125 ,it took roughly a year to get the miniatures,I got my rule book last week,to be honest the year?  wait for the miniatures soured it for me,the fact that it was even longer for the rules to play with,2 years means I cannot be bothered with it.i sold my halfling warband awhile back to a member on here due to him asking me if I would when I mentioned it on a thread, and when I get a chance I'm going up in the loft to find their box, photograph them and sell it all.
I've flicked through the book and that's it,the actual miniatures are quite large so will be hard to scale with other companies.

Thank you the feedback gents. I was getting a little worried that after over 100 views no-one had any feedback. Always a bad sign..  :(

I'm sorry to hear that the Kickstarter has soured the line for some of you, it's one of the main reasons I tend not to even consider backing kickstarters. I've heard quite a few horror stories. As I'm sure we all have.

As to Arcworlde, I'm still interested, I'm into story driven games and I'm not a tournament player by any stretch of the imagination. So it should suit me, as do self-contained figure lines.  :)

Are the 'faction' sets big enough to play with? I'm imagining a game described as 'mordheim/malifaux' will only need a dozen figures at most?

3 fingers@ I'll keep an eye out for your post on the bazaar!  ;)

The rulebook recommends 300 Gold Coins (points) for a normal sized game. An Albionnican set, my faction, has models worth about 200 Gold Coins, and the other sets should be about the same, making for a slightly undersized game.

You should be fine to play directly from the box. I will have my first game at the end of the month using only the miniatures from the Kickstarter. If you want to go directly for the 300 points, it only takes a few elite figures to add you way up there.
