Red Baroness and her X-163 Rocketplane

The Red Baroness and her X-163 Rocketplane!

Ilsa von Richthofen, the daughter of Manfred von Richthofen shown here posing with her Rocketplane. Manfred, the hero of the Franco German war of 1917, had been developing the experimantal craft in 1937 with the help of friends Alexander Lippisch and Hellmuth Walter. He was killed in a suspicious automobile accident after a reportedly rather loud disagreement with his former wingman and now commander-in-chief of the Luftwaffe, Hermann Göring. After her father's death, Ilsa took the X-163 Rocketplane to her uncles estates in England where she began her famous career as Aviatrix and Rocket Ace, fighting the communists over England and then later over China.
-from Osprey's Rocket Planes over England 1937-1939.

Hans Schmidt, hardened veteran of the Franco German war and of the German civil wars, was the commander of the infamous Rot Helms who guarded Ilsa and the X-163 whilst on the ground.

Lord Blackacre came to see what all the  hullabaloo down at the aerodrome was.

I say my dear, looks like you could use a bit of ammo.

That is ace - and what is red is faster, we all learned from the Nottingham beast. The wings are an aerodynamic catastrophe beinig mounted upside down, but who cares - the rocket engine will accelerate that power egg to a speed that it wouldn´t even need wings at all... :D

I love the story behind it. Great introduction and fantastic conversion and paintjob!

Beautiful! :-* :-* :-*

The weathering is marvellous an the colour scheme is pure Pulp. I doff my hat, sir.

Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing
