Steam Spider, new paint
« on: 21 October 2014, 07:37:14 PM »
At the turn of this century VSF wargames around the country were adorned with the Wild Wild West Steam Spider. They are really cool and were very affordable. They were a dollar at the burger chain and less at thrift stores. I added a gun platform, drivers pulpit and lenghthened the smokestack with a straw. Originaly I primed it grey and it stayed that way for 15 years. This week I added rivets and gave it a Tarantula paint job. The figures are 25mm ACW from Foundry and RAFM. The cannnon is from Deadlands on a scratch built pintle mount.

Excellent work!

I wish I could get my hands on some of these but the toys were never sold in Australia.

Maybe I can find some on eBay....

Cheers

Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly
down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red
Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture,
torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals.

Well done, running bass-ackwards!  lol

Especially love the 'bright work'; the polished brass is a treat.

When I used to find them fairly common in thrift store, with several, or all, legs missing, [Oh, look here's a sealed package! Oh, here's a denuded body!] I experimented with four and six legged versions. I always thought the four-legged looked fast, greyhound like.

Also, tried putting the legs on upside down, so that the body was 'slung' underneath. Nice menacing crawling bat effect, especially with four legs. I gutted the beast, and the 'head' made a nice driver's station in 15mm, gun underneath. Never did cut the top 'belly' open for visible engine space. Unfortunately, most are lost in the abyss I have the temerity to call 'basement'.

Those Wild Wild West toys really get around.  Very effective conversion.
