Imperial Assault and West End Games?
« on: 12 July 2015, 02:24:09 AM »
I did a very bad thing today. I bought two sealed blisters of West End Games Star Wars minis at my local shop. I only paid $11 total for the two blisters. No, they're not cool packs or anything but now I want ... more.  :D

I now realize what a mistake this was. eBay is stupid for prices.

So...

How well do Imperial Assault figures fit with WEG? Close-ish? They're easier to find.  ;D

I'd also love to see them side by side.

I'd be tempted to say no however. 25mm vs 32mm... Might be too much difference.

Cheers

Yeah I've had a few pms on the same subject too Scurv. I have a massive soft spot for these minis. Granted I have lots of WOTC too but from a painting persoective i just love the clean well proportioned sculpts. Just a word of caution: very late casts and sadly a lot of the American casts have massive quality issues.

Lots of mould slip as they wore out. (Blistered minis moreso).

But they are lovely to paint.

Here's a scale shot I took of most of the Star Wars lines.

From left to right, WOTC Metal, WEG, Imperial Assault, WOTC plastic and Knight Models. The WEG doesn't even come close. On the other hand, if you look around on E-Bay I know there's a guy selling old, badly painted WEG figures in a lot at around a buck a piece. I know this because he's selling them for me. Look around for a while. There are deals to be had, as long as you're willing to strip paint, or live without the blister cards.

And the best quality WEG minis are the ones in the box sets. Those came out before the blister packs. At least that's how it was for me.

Michka, you legend!

The Imperial Assault stormtrooper wins hands down for me  :-*  :-*  :-* I hope that IA stormtrooper set comes out soon  8)

WTF is the deal with everyone digging hard on greedo. For a bit character who got bugger all screen time he is the most popular fig asked for that is not a stormie. Why?

I guess because the old school Vs new school argument, "Han Shoots First". It cannot be much else.

Cheers

I'll second that GZG 25mm scale up brilliantly with the WEG SW models. I think I now have every model that came out, but as I don't have a full list not sure. I managed to swap some old 3rd ed fantasy orcs for a boxed unbuilt rancor monster and handler - am actually very tempted to leave it in the box. Oh, and Micro Machines Fleet Action SW vehicles (I have tie fighter, x-wing, snowspeeder and atst) are pretty spot on for scale.
