2/87th Prince of Wales Own Irish Regiment
« on: 07 December 2014, 12:50:31 PM »
Hi all,

I've just completed the second Irish battalion that made its debut during the Talavera campaign.

Later, to be known as the "Aigle Catchers" amongst the British Army in the Peninsula, this battalion would develop from an unpromising start to achieve the accolade as the first British regiment to capture a French Eagle in the Peninsular War.

If you would like to know more about this unit, then just follow the link to JJ's.

Very nice  :-*

I must admit, there is something compelling when seeing ranked up Napoleonic figures... Almost enough to do it myself  :)

cheers

Thanks James. I know exactly what you mean, and when there are multiple battalions in serried ranks you can almost smell the cordite and hear the drums beating. It's what Napoleonics are all about.

Very nice figures and I really like the way you provide historical background on the 87th. Well done.

So, it wasn't Sharpe that captured the first Eagle...?
