Painted Forgeworld Stable

Just before GenCon I received the Forgeworld Stable and hut in the mail. I just finished painting the stable. I'll be using it for some Broadsword Adventures games.

I don't care for everything being gray stone so I went for a more brownish sort of color for the walls and the roof tiles were a blue slate.

Cool model and nice painting! I like the 'brownish' colours, gives it a quite Mediterranean look. What colour did you use for base coating? Further suggestion: Maybe you could add some little bushes or grassy areas on the sides of the building. Anyway, very well done.

The model would be useful for the England/Scotland borders for some Border Reiving games.

I started off the walls with a gray primer. I then did a very heavy drybrush of a mixed burnt umber and light gray (so it was a light brownish-gray color). I then coated all the walls with a brown wash to darken and create a non-uniform look to the stones since the wash would pool in different areas.  I then drybrushed with my mix from above. When that was dry, I added more gray to the mix and did an even lighter drybrush.

Lordy, that's a beautiful little model.

The warmer stone shade works perfectly and contrasts well with the colder roof slates. I get fed up with seeing basic grey stonework, so this is a refreshing change 

I shall of course steal your method as soon as I can find time to paint some old resin buildings I've had lying around for about 15 years. If I can find them....

Of course there are rather grey stones and rocks around. However, mostly they contain some shimmer of brown or red. I usually use dark flesh as a base color which later is heavily drybrushed in greys and whites or sandcolor - depending on the overall appearance I want to achieve.

Nice paint job you got there. And the two miniatures are sooo BA (ever since I saw them in the rule book).
