40K Gothic Ruins - more added (29 March)

I painted these up after they have sat around since 1998 (they came in the 3rd edition 40K box set)! They will eventually become part of my (2nd edition themed) 40K jungle table. These pieces are fairly specific to40K but the table overall is intended to be used with VSF Venus and Vietnam and French Indochina and perhaps other things too!

My orks insisted on posing for at least one shot...

I see that you are, like me, a firm believer in adding some 'growie' stuff to buildings.
It adds to the character.

Yes, a bit overgrown to add some interest and differentiate them from all the others out there, they are pre made pieces after all so I think it is almost mandatory to do something....

Nice work.  I would disagree though that they are 40k specific.  They have so few skulls on them compared to current 40k buildings that they could easily work in any setting where gothic buildings may have come to harm.  With enough foliage, they could even be fantasy or medieval structures.

I think you are thinking of the Ruins of Osilgarth set, which is very nice, but I do not have it sadly. It is also much more generic.

I made this piece of scatter terrain for my 40K table the other day.





The barrels are GW and the ammo boxes are resin pieces by Victoria Miniatures.

I also painted these critters. They are made by Reaper (sorry, something went wrong with the lighting in the second pic):





I'm interested in people's thoughts on the bases. They are experimental in terms of which shade of green to paint the rim. All my fantasy stuff when I start painting it later this year will have these bases and I am undecided as to which colour is best. The colours used are all GW. The pug is Dark Angels Green, the squirrel is Snot Green, the Iguana is Knarloc Green, and the weasel is Goblin Green. I probably lean towards Knarloc or Goblin.

I realise a lot of people don't like GW style green bases: I do.

Sounds like conversations that I have had.  I like the bases.  Second from the left for me on the squirrel for the color.  Personally I paint all mine a milk chocolate color and not everyone like them.

Thanks, Snitchy! I just don't want to get a whole lot of comments stating "I hate those GW style bases etc etc" 

I like the snot Green too, it is a very pleasing colour but I think I am against it manily because I am thinking of painting my space marines Snot Green and it might look odd if they are the exact same shade as the base rims...

Put me down for a vote on Knarloc Green. I switched to brown rims because it was objectively better , but I do like the GW style bases too.
