Anyone seen the warlord games day miniature?

I shall be getting myself one.

That figure is hideous, it's ill conceived and poorly executed.
It also reduces the man who has been voted the greatest ever Englishman to the level of a 2 bit Chicago gangster.

The miniatures is based on an actual photo of him in that suite holding a tommy gun.

I like the overall concept, i'm just hoping a bad paint job is to blame because there is a slight ''offness'' that strikes me...I think it may be the face.

I found the warlord games Cross of Iron miniature was much better in the flesh than the pics suggested, so i'm willing to give some benefit of the doubt.

Funny... I say that about almost all of their figures. The best ones were those they bought up and then didn't produce (BEF Miniatures anyone?) and the original Bolt Action Miniatures line itself. Even the work Paul Hicks has done recently for them often lacks a certain something, although the Nicole Minet figure was good.

The suit, tommy gun and bowler is actually what defines him as Churchill if you've seen 'the photo', but you wouldn't know it from the face.

Quite.

And it's better than the Woodbine version, which looks more like WC Fields.  It's the battered hat, I think.

In VBCW terms (this being the Interwar board), he needs that Tommy Gun to shoot Welsh miners.  A strange and complex man, Churchill, who did his country a tremendous service, but not a plaster saint above ridicule.

"Churchill's role in the events at Tonypandy during the conflict left a negative attitude towards him in South Wales, that still persists. The main point of contention was his decision to allow troops to be sent to Wales. Although this was an unusual move, and was seen by those in Wales as an overreaction, his Tory opponents suggested that he should have acted with greater vigour.[4]:[p111] The troops acted more circumspectly and were commanded with more common sense than the police, whose role under Lionel Lindsay was, in the words of historian David Smith, "more like an army of occupation".[4]:[p111] The troops were also generally viewed with less hostility than the local and Metropolitan police."

Let's calm down about Churchill shooting Welsh miners, eh?

It'd make a nice figure of a stoutly built civilian militiaman with a Tommy gun, if nothing else!

It's not a bowler, his favourite was the bowker (a homburg without the depression in the top).

Everyone wants that as a figure but apparently no one seems to be able to sculpt it right. Doesn't look like Churchill in the least.

As for old Winston himself, I remain a fan and consider his account of WWII essential reading, but he's an interesting figure and certainly not one of driven snow, whitewashed in so many ways by his hagiographers (and himself). Yet for all his real faults, his detractors always seem to want to undermine their criticisms by inflating any misdeeds to epic, ridiculous dimensions, to pin every tragedy in the British Empire from 1900 to his death on the man.

Anyway, best leave discussion of those details to some other time and place.

My thoughts exactly, i'm pretty sure ol' Winston doesn't make much of an appearance in vbcw anyway.

The first pic of Winston above is the one I had in mind, the second...i'm glad to see shows him using the tommy gun as it was actually designed, none of that hip firing jazz.

I've found that separate heads are my only gripe with warlord(as I keep going on about it lol) what they need is a full time painter as i'd guess they just have staff that are hobbyists to paint up new products.

Depending on the price i'll still be getting it for vbcw as some local bigwig, if it turns out it's not the paintjob...all the better! I can just use him as a local big-wig.

I have one of the Woodbine ones in my VBCW forces but not as Churchill.
A like to see a Warlord figure in the flesh before commentating.  Mixed bag?

I'd say that the best likeness remains the Black Scorpion one.  I don't know if the head would fit on the Warlord figure's body.

It looks like Wargames Illustrated isn't selling those vignette sets Gary Morley sculpted any more, but there was a Yalta set which included a seated, hatless Churchill - it sort of looked like him, but if he was old and unwell.  Not as unwell as Blue Moon's zombie Churchill, though.

That one looks like more like the late (and infamous) Lord Boothby to me.
