What Flock?

Hi,
I am gonna be starting my gaming boards soon, these will be my first proper ones I have done, what flock would people recommend to use as a search on the web seems to point me to woodland scenics as most manufacturers seem to sell only static grass

Yes, Woodland Scenics or NOCH is good.

Whatever you get, get several shades and grades to help break up the monotony and give it that little extra.

Don't go over board with the flower tufts either, just a few here and there will do

I don't know if it's the case where you are, but I've found that buying flock from a model railway shop to be much, much cheaper than buying much tinier, more expensive lots of the exact same stuff from a game/model shop.

I guess model railroaders tend to use it in pretty large quantities, and if they had to buy it in the puny little pots like the GF9 flocks, nobody would be able to afford to use it to cover a whole railroad layout.

I do suggest the modeltrain-terrain-sellers as well. I dunno if these are international, but NOCH and Busch seems to be very good, though I think each country does have their own good manufacturers. And do not hesitate to buy a light green here and a dark green there, etc.
Though they are usually pretty much the same all over, it may still vary, so have a look at all, and choose the most fitting colour for Your project.

If You are not in for a table with lots of different hight build in, then do not do too much "stuff" like branches and stones directly on the table, but keep them on the modulars. Too much branches glued on here and there and You cannot put modules on these areas. Tricky with scatter-rules.

I prefer static grass over ground foam for basic work and then soften it up with a light sprinkling of ground foam



I do recommend coming up with a mix of materials you like - for static guess I use a mix of 2/3 light green and 1/3 dark green from Woodland Scenics

+1 on the recommendation from jimbibbly on going light on the flower tufts - it's always easier to add more later but very hard to take away if you do go over board
