Some painted Orruks (or Orcs)
« on: August 19, 2015, 07:38:31 PM »
I've decided I want to paint up a small force for Age of Sigmar. I don't think all the criticism leveled at the game is at all justified and I expect mostly comes from people who rarely wargame let alone have tried the game.

Anyway, being a bit of a goblin myself I decided I'd start with some orcs, or Orruks, as they are now called. I'm a bit cautious to spend big on some of the current range as I expect it will be replaced sooner or later with something nicer so for now I'm going to go for some cheaper, generic options (although I'll probably splash out on a unit of Black Orcs). These chaps are from the 5th Edition starter set which I picked up from ebay for about 50p each. I have some more in various states of completion but I'm awaiting some 30mm bases to pop them on (if anyone has some archers or command figures from the same set they want rid of - PM me).

They were painted up relatively quickly, using a brown spray undercoat, a brown wash over the leathers, the metals were washed then given a quick drybrush, everything else just got a quick highlight. The only thing that was given any time and care was the skin (Foundry Moss triad, with a wash of Agrax Earthshade after the A layer) so they match my other orcs.

These will likely see action in Dragon Rampant when it arrives as well being called into action for of God of Battles if I can find some opponents.

What do you think?

Really nice painting, but I have always hated the 'new' toothy style orcs. Not so new anymore, but relatively speaking.

The Pale Green Lads look SPLENDID.Your brushwork & color choices are OUTSTANDING...it takes a courageous painter to do his Orcs in rose. VERY WELL DONE!

I'm a huge fan of Kevin Adams' orcs with huge silly grins and gangly limbs, these more brutal looking chaps are certainly different (one of the main reasons for choosing them) but the more of them I paint, the more I like their aesthetic. I'm keen to try and pick up the Orc Raider with pig they put out a few years ago - its a fun figure full of character.

Like how you've painted those. The metal effect on the blades is very effective. :)

Look nice. I love these minis.

Still calling them Orruks just sends shivers down my spine. And not in a good way.
