After all this time, I didn't think I'd finish him one day, I must have taken me about 2 years to get this model done when I first came upon the one plastic bit that made me think it would be a good idea...
But I suppose a model done is a good one so let's enjoy Kaleb Daarl 2.0 along his original version :

BUT he is here and he's ready to hunt all the other chaos champions out there !

This magnetised little buddy will take any form to accomplish his mission (and if he gets to hug the sweet Arianka in the process...   8) )

All you'd want to know about the build and all in the associated blogpost

If you're familiar with the Warhammer world, you may know that there are chaos gods (4 of them being the most well known). There were more named examples in the earlier days but one of them originated from a comic book and the rights to that character were lost to GW which had to abandon it. Some easter eggs still pop up in GW's publications and just as all the other abandonned content, it still has its core of fans !

Both versions of Mr D look great.
Very clever with the idea of magnetising so he can ride or walk to the slaughter.

You can google the 3-part comic of Kaleb Daark on internet  ;).
Amazing to see how the 1985's sculpt beats the plastic thingie from a few decades later by miles, both the sculpting and the detail...
Eye candy  :).

I can't copletly agree with that... They both have their own style and I really like both versions.
A worthy tribute to the old model. just wish I had an old one as well :)
Why aim for gold if you can get lead?

Yeah, it's a great tribute, I totally agree.
I meant the sculpting from GW, especially the leg part of the Kaleb on foot, it's just quite simple, compared to the metal version. The mounted one and upper torso on the other hand ( including the horse ) are top notch, including the painting!  8)

Cheers guys, as a matter of fact I took the legs from a kit which is designed to be used another way leaving some parts visibles that should be hidden on their original source. That said those are 2 entirely different things we're looking at. I realise my painting style doesn't really suit plastic model and I feel far more confident with old metal models though I can definitely see the advantages of both.
Some sculpt as old as Kaleb here are far better both in sculpting and casting so he might not be the best herald for old lead models really. But despite those weird proportions and soft details in some places, it is definitely a pleasant model and one which could be brought to very high standards by very good painters I guess. Plastics have their own problems (mainly those horrible undercut angles and some weird details).
Good thing is I'm not looking at master level but towards a mix between "fun to paint" and "good looking on a table".
