Moon faces and black and white checks are not going to work on him.  Heavy shading with hundred of black rotring pen dots?

On a serious note, he is quite epic brushwork. Blanche kimono would do more yellowish and darker.

Other from that I think you are maxed at Blanschitsu when talking about martial artists :>

Thanks a lot guys, I'll think about a big red Evil Sun on his back and a lot of checkerboard stripes here and there. The rotring dots are a new frontier to me, but, who knows...
