Bargain masts ...
« on: December 15, 2008, 02:39:50 PM »
Everybody building his own pirate or other sailing ships needs decent masts sooner or later, and I've found a very nice but cheap variant: a set of brushes!

This set of large bristle brushes costs 1,- EUR in a nearby 1-Euro-Shop, and as you can see, the sticks of the paintbrushes are quite long and come in 6 different sizes and thicknesses. But the best thing is - they are conical! So you get the complete set of ready made sailing masts for at least one ship in this set for 1 ,- Euro. Only some minor detailing required. And on top you could use the bristles for some larger grass tufts on the next scenery project.

I bought five sets on Saturday, but there were much more. So if anybody would like to get them, please let me know. You could get them for 1,- Euro plus postage at cost. Payment through PayPal.

If someone is interested, just pm me.

Welcome to the club! I´ve used them for several ships to date, but I suggest looking for those that do not have the sealed surface variant (should be the cheaper ones), since on these, paint may be tricky to apply. And it kills the natural grain.

Not a bad idea at all!  Perhaps (e.g. for ancient Roman vessels) one could mount (full) Coat d'Arms (black) paint bottles on the bows and open them on contact when ramming...

No, seriously: a splendid idea!

good Idea, now if I could only ruin those new and good brushes...

OK, if not ruining them I could use the bristles as reed grass...  :D
Far less active than I used to...

I just chuck a piece of Dowel into my electric drill and use sandpaper as it turns, kind of a mini-lathe efeect, it's even cheaper, regards, Steve
