Frostgrave with 15mm figures?
« on: August 04, 2015, 12:00:26 PM »
Hello everyone out there in fantasy land,I am planning my first game on Sunday and am going to play in 15mm. Does anyone else out there use 15mm? I was wondering about ranges etc. Does anyone know a UK supplier of 15mm terrain?

Halving all measurements is a bit quick and dirty but seems an appropriate way to scale down from 28mm to 15mm.

I wouldn't bother scaling the ranges.
The scale is about 1/2 inch to 6 feet.
So the max range of an archer is 24" = 96 yards.
That seems reasonable.

More importantly if you halve the movement then playing on a 3'x3' table would be the equivalent to playing with 28mm on a 6'x6' table which is way too large for a standard game.

I have never really gotten why people would halve ranges when playing 15mm.

I have never tried a rules set that did not work exactly as intended when changing scale from 28mm to 15mm.

Unless you are after some form of hyper realistic combat simulation* just play it straight out of the box. And you should be fine.

The Gormiti  dwarf head on this link is really cool and it comes in a smaller size perfect for 15mm. check ebay and such and if it's$19.99 it's the small one and should work

And indeed, to reduce terrain costs commensurately. Less space equals less terrain to cover it.

Agreed.  I don't do 15mm a lot (apart from WWII stuff, 15mm minis are pretty hard to find in my neck of the woods), but when I do I can usually replace "inches" with "centimeters" and use the rules as written. That lets me turn a 3' square board into a 36 cm square board, which means I can play on a coffee table.  Even games that require a 6'x4' board can be played on a 3'x2' surface with room to spare.

On the other hand, since most of my terrain is designed for 28mm stuff, it means that I mostly only have hills (BIG hills!) and forests (DEEP forests!) for these games.

Ral partha Europe sells the old Demonworld 15mm's. Some got repackaged as Blighthaven, in little RPG/skirmish warbands:
http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/blighthaven-15mm-c-119/warbands-c-119_120/
They also have scenery accessories.

This range oges very well with Copplestone 15mm's.
Eureka has not-LotR in 15mm, some of the characters might work.

If you're thinking about doing Frostgrave in 15mm, how about the new Da Vinci figure by 15mm.co.uk for a sigilis - www.15mm.co.uk/products/hot102-leonardo-da-vinci

I don't know whether to be a good example or a horrible warning.

I'm looking at 15mm frostgrave so I can play games at uni without my tutors realising I'm not working ;)
