Airfix 1:72 Boulton-Paul Defiant
« on: October 13, 2015, 08:34:41 PM »
For the first time in years and years, I felt the urge to build a model aeroplane. As is my wont, I veered away from the cool-kid 'planes, and went for a bit of a lame duck: the Boulton-Paul Defiant, from 1940.

Airfix have just released a newly-tooled model of this aeroplane, and I have to say that it's the best-engineered plastic model kit I've ever put together. Everything went together like a breeze, and the detailing is excellent for a kit of this scale. Not that it couldn't benefit from super-detailing, but straight out of the box is pretty damn good.

It includes a very comprehensive decal sheet for two colour schemes; I only applied the major markings.

Very nice work! The Defiant is one of my favourite WW2 planes, too, obviously more due to its obscurity than to a stellar service record.

Fitz,

I have to second Westfalia Chris's comments. Great work on an splendid plane!

On a side note, Airfix has my admiration for holding true their history on product offerings, nicely crafted kits (and getting even nicer  ;) ) that don't cost a fortune to bring home.

Very nice. On paper, that seems like a great idea for a plane.

I actually picked up a Ju-87 for SCW the other day and was surprised how affordable it was. I am of highly limited funds, and it's nice to be able to find something to fit the budget.
