For modelers the big difference is the passenger entrance. The C-47 has a gaping hole in the fuselage, not a door. You might be able to get some preformed styrene plastic from a hobby manufacturer who specialises in kit bashers supplies.
Why bother with all that hassle? Just look for Monogram's civilian DC-3. It's already got the smaller fuselage door and the passenger seats and overhead racks for the interior.
