A game of Cutlass! at the ELMS Club
« on: 21 February 2016, 11:12:20 AM »
Last Thursday we tried out the Cutlass! rules from Black Scorpion. I've had these for quite a while but never tried them, always having used Strange Grogge for piratical skirmishes.

Due to various circumstances I ended up umpiring a basic skirmish scenario between a dwarf crew and a pirate crew. We had a mix of weaponry (including a grenade that managed to explode before being thrown!)

The game played a lot more smoothly than I expected, only the tables for combat and damage being needed to refer to after the first couple of turns. We did have a high AU roll vs a low roll which did leave one turn a little one sided, I think I'd like another game or two before I tried to tinker with this rule - but it did seem to leave one player sat with no way of responding for longer than I'd like.

Overall I think its a nice quirky system that appears to have some good millage in it, I'm a little surprised I've not seen more talk about about it, especially with the lovely pirate ranges Black Scorpion produce.

I've popped a couple of extra pictures on my blog:http://verbilgerbil.blogspot.co.uk and more will appear on our facebook page later in the week: https://www.facebook.com/ELMSWargames/
