Russians retreat after blunting Swedish assault

The Russians put up a heroic resistance against a Swedish assault but ultimately, and grudgingly, gave ground before their persistent adversaries.

The Swedes were able to smash up the Russian cavalry (and their Polish allies) but faced a tougher nut with the Russian infantry dug in in a village on a hill.  The Russians just would not budge despite repeated assaults by the best of the Swedish infantry forces.

Eventually with their cavalry support in tatters and in danger of being flanked the Russians pulled back but the Swedes were too battered to follow on rapidly. 

This game was played using Black Powder and the Last Argument of Kings supplement and was one of the games we had at Con On the Run, the annual Bushy Run Battlefield games day.
