How can I find US 7th Cavalry dismounted?
« on: 22 February 2016, 07:01:21 AM »
Hi, I am on a new project 1:72 plastics...I want to play US cavalry vs Indians [such as Custers last Stand etc]
There is a big variety in Indians. Unfortunately the only Dismounted US cavalry is the Atlantic General Custer set [see here: http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=60] and the LUCKY TOYS Custer: the last hunt... No suitable figures for my purpose. Have you any ideas? Are there any 7th cavalry [or suitable] metal figs in 1:72 ?
thanks

SHQ have some 20mm ACW cavalry that may fit even if not 100% accurate.
Mounted and dismounted

thank you very much... Unfortunately they dont show the figures. I dont know which of them are closer to my standards. Could you propose  me which is best fitting as US 7th Cav?

Unfortunately no. There's only a few pic over the internet of this range but they seems to be quite good.
You might try to contact them directly to get their recommandation.

I was going to say something crass like 'after apache have stolen all their horses' but I do share your pain.
Whatever period or scale this always seems to be an annoying problem for wargamers. Dragoons or Light horse only depicted in a single 'mode'. I agree with Treebeard, your best bet is probably a sympathetic paint job of infantry wearing similar uniform. Thankfully 20mm is a forgiving scale in that respect.
I have found contacting the manufacturer directly can be helpful in this kind of situation. They are usually quite sympathetic and appreciate the effort you've made to contact them.

The SHQ figures are a bit taller than Newline Designs (they are old Kennington figures) but they mix well.
Try also the ND ACW dismounted cavalry for more variety.
