Hi Folks
I live in Malta, an island nation in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. I started my venture in miniatures at the age of 12, collecting and playing with 1/72 Esci kits. It was a solo hobby, but I used to spend hours painting them. 5 years later started Warhammer, and abandoned historical miniatures, though not military history.
Then, many many years later, in 2010, Warlord Games released the first kits of the Pike and Shotte range, Osprey released the first of 2 books about the Imperial Armies of the Thirty Years War, and got hooked. 28mm was much better than 1/72 scale. I still do a bit of fantasy Age of Sigmar – which in my opinion is much better than 8th ed warharmmer – but historical is my greatest love. The Thirty Years War is my favourite military history period, though I also like ancients, mainly the Etruscans and also the Punic Wars. From a local point of view, Maltese history is rich in military episodes, from the Punic Wars (Hannibal Barca is reputed to have been buried here) to the epic Great Siege of 1565.
The gaming community here is based on fantasy/sci-fi/steampunk, but there are a few guys like me who like historical gaming, and once in a while we play a game. I spend much more time painting, and a few weeks ago decided that my catholic imperialist army needed an upgrade in infantry, a recruitment of cavalry, forging artillery pieces and commanders to lead them.
Best Regards to all
