Hi all, looking to see if anyone can help me, as I'm waaaay out of my comfort zone this far back in history!

Can anyone advise on how well the above named manufacturers 15mm Spartans mix, or better yet provide some comparison photographs? I've got some Xyston chaps on order (in a break away from my usual defaulting straight to Essex for 15s), but they're slightly light on Corinthian helmets for my liking, whereas the FiB offerings seem to wear them exclusively, so I'd hit upon the idea of mixing the two to get the aesthetic I'm after.

Normally I'd just buy a single pack as a taster, but unfortunately FiB don't offer anything smaller than 24 figure boxes, so that's not really a goer.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Cheers
Iain.

Here's some Forged in Battle Hoplites (couple of Tin Soldier munchkins have snuck into the phalanx) hitting a motley crew of Xyston Persian

:)

Cheers, HF. Certainly look pretty reasonable together from a Gods' eye view...

Lovely painting, btw!

I can lay claim to the Hoplites, but the Persians were done by a proper figure painter!

The Xystin hoplites are more "normal Essex 15mm" than most of their other ranges and are very good.

I've got some FiB Persian cavalry, and in the basis of those figures I'd be a bit concerned that the FiB hoplites might look a tad crude next to the Xyston figures - although to be fair the ones in this picture look pretty detailed.

I'm afraid I can't provide exactly what you want, but I hope these comparison shots may help.

Xyston, FIB Etruscan, Xyston, FIB Campanian, Xyston.

FIB Etruscan, Old Gory Etruscan, Essex Etruscan, FIB Etruscan.

Owning both ranges, Xyston Hoplites and FiB Republican Roman I would say they look ok together but I would not mix in the same unit but that is just me.

Both ranges are great!

For easy of assembly and painting, if I were to start from scratch on my Greeks/Macedonians I would go with FiB.  As nice as the Xyston minis are the seperate shields and spears can be a pain, especially when doing 500+

Thanks guys, that's ideal. May just give it a bash, for all the cost of a tenner. If it doesn't look right, ah well, sometimes the gods are fickle...
