Celtic or Roman zombies
« on: October 05, 2016, 08:49:22 PM »
I have a Renegade Celtic warband and I'm looking for some zombies that will scale well with them
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

When we needed Napoleonic zombies (for Pride and Prejudice) we used Mantic ghouls and added ragged tissue paper clothing (including kilts - we had Scottish zombies) - tissue paper soaked in glue to harden it - and spare Victrix pieces (mostly weapons but also some heads and shakos).
I would guess the same would work for ancient zombies if you add helmets, shields, etc.

They didn't look too bad and it gave us a lot of zombie figures for a reasonable price.

In the game the Scottish zombies moved faster (we justified it as "because they wear kilts" they don't just shuffle along)- intimidated the players trying to escape from them.

Some cool examples here http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=32275.300 also in the pages after and before the one linked. Using Mantic Games zombies and other plastic fantasy - historical bits.

The Celtos FirBolg range would give you a good core of troops to add your own conversions to.

Yes they are still available.

Brigade has them now. Castings are first rate:

Another way is to take a box of plastic skeletons and give them celtic weapons, shields and helmets -

Also you can cut off the head and limbs of armoured figures and replace them with those from the skeletons.

The Mantic zombies/skeletons convert well to a historical undead. There was an article in WSS Issue 85 with Norse zombies that used Mantic stuff.

Zvezda!  Been looking for a set of these forever, sadly they seem difficult to come by these days (or I'm just not looking hard enough).  With all the plastics out there, though, converting period-appropriate skeletons or zombies is often a cinch.
