WIP - Italian Guard unit.
« on: 10 December 2016, 02:13:38 AM »
Hi all
My interpretation of a guard unit from Italy (about 1813 I think). If they had been called up to duty in Spain or Germany, perhaps they would have looked like this after a few months on the road.

Cheers

Is it a fictional unit? What unit is it? Interesting look.

No - a real unit. Regiment Elisa Napoleon. I think she designed the uniform hence the red trousers, brown jacket, wine facing and sky blue collars and cuffs. Add in a grecian helmet and you have some real dandies.

Bonjour Brian,

Just the sort of gear that a re-enactor should wear whilst shopping for groceries.

Outstanding!

Cheers,

Paul

This source says that the regiment was never raised: link
nevertheless, it's a very nice unit  :)

I saw that in English but being a preview couldn't read every page. Just the bit where the brown jacket was described as cappuccino (which I am guessing is more about the monk's brown robes than the coffee).

but the cofee ....in reality milk and coffee...name derive exactly from the monk dress..and it should be served in a glass not in a mug..as to be able to see the colour while drinking it.
.i must recognize to our non Italian friends...that i had my worst cappuccinos (we Italians cannot afford a morning without it) absolutly undrinkable ..just polluted water ..in France..practically everywere including good hotel's coffeshops..and that  is amazing as France is a also a Latin country...while..to our great amazement ..i was served with some very good capuccino ...equally if not better than the  original Italian ones in quite a few places in London...another reason why is my favourite city...

I had some of the worst cappuccino of my life in Italy. Also some of the best so I guess that balances out. Ones here in New Zealand are pretty good on the whole.
