Need help with model ideas for a Dark Elf themed warband!
« on: 12 January 2017, 10:26:17 PM »
Hey guys!

So my mates and I are finally jumping into Frostgrave, and I'm going to be running a Dark Elf themed warband using the old metal warhammer Dark elves from 6th edition WHFB (have a look at this catalogue for what the minis look like http://www.solegends.com/citcat2004us/index.htm). I've gotten down what to use for most of the potential minis, but I'm having an issue with a couple of them.

What I have figured out though is that I'll be converting some witch elves as the basis of my wizard and apprentice, and also for a barbarian, a monk and a mystic warrior. I'm then using the metal corsairs to represent crossbowmen, archers, infantrymen, men-at-arms and treasure hunters (with conversion work to be done on most of them). Beastmasters will form the basis for trackers/apothecaries, assassins for theives, and the executioner command for my templar and knight minis. Various other profiles I've got ideas that I want to follow, but aren't the ones I'm stuck on.

What I don't know what to do is how to make thugs and packmules. My initial idea for thugs was to get shades, remove the crossbows and use that. But when I started about the packmule I realized that I wanted a slave like model (because Dark elves take slaves) and thought what about using slaves for the thugs too (as they have low will, meaning they surely can't be arrogant dark elves!).

So my question is do people know of fantasy human slave like models that would work well for thugs and packmules, and scale with the miniatures that I'm going to use? Would prefer male minis as well as all the female male slaves are either nude or not in a pose that would work for combat (or carrying a large bag!).

Cheers!

GW's plastic flagellant models make human great slave models. They are burly, ragged and most come with metal collars and manacles. If you have a buddy that plays Empire, ask him for a model. If not, you can search eBay or buy the model from bitz re-sellers, like Bitzbox.

Add a plastic backpack and pouches (or make then yourself from greenstuff) and voila, slave Pack Mule.

I've seen people make great slaves/lightly armed humans with the Parry Miniatures Mahdist Ansar as base. Here's an example from the excellent Llama's blog:

I second Flagellants, and it was the first thing that came to mind.

Thanks for the ideas guys!

Re: flagellants
Does anyone know how the current plastic flagellants scale compared to the older metal dark elves?

Re: Perry miniatures Mahdist Ansar
They look pretty good but might freeze a bit! I'm going to keep that idea in the back of my head though for later

Re: Slann slaves
Tad too old school for my liking, but could be of use with Ghost Archipelago around the corner
