Built myself some mini storage.
« on: 16 January 2017, 07:20:58 AM »
I decided to make myself a storage thingy for my painted minis. I bought some plywood and mdf and bashed it together.
I've bought some of those kitset-kitchen-shelf-brackety-things to hold up the MDF. I'll  be attaching A4 magnetic sheets to it and magnetising all my bases (God help me) to fit on there. I still need to attach these though.
A question, will neodymium magnets stick to fridge magnet paper stuff well? Otherwise I'll just go and get some galvanised steel.
I reckon I can fit about 100 minis based on 25mm bases per big shelf.
It has 7 shelves, and I have made some so they are shorted so tall minis can fit on the lower shelf at the front. I have extra larger shelves in case I don't need as many shorter ones.
Shelves are 50mm apart, I may put in some extra shelving options for those taller minis.
Here are some pics.
EDIT: I also made the dimensions of this a perfect fit for my minis closet. More photos to come when I add in the magnetic sheets.

I was thinking that myself.  I guess probably a baton at each end and middle might work. Thanks for the feedback.

I agree, those shelves look too thin.  I use chipboard book cases to display my figures, the shelves are over half and inch thick but they still bow and have to be turned periodically.

I have an easy solution. I'm going to put a few more tabs at the back and make a pillar at the front to hold it all up with slots for the mcg to go into. Should be cheap and work a treat.

Here it is stuck into my closet

The black lines above and below are the shelves so it is a perfect fit. I have the spare shelves sitting on top.
Underneath are all my unpainted minis in boxes.
I was quite surprised at how little I actually had to fit in there. I guess I do sell off stuff once I no longer want it (or think I want it) I do have some other stuff to put in there but I'll be able to fit the kids painting in there too which is great!
I've put all my metals around the outside as much as I could, plastics and resin in the centre. The heaviest stuff is all on the bottom.
You can't really see much in there but it's great to have them easy to access rather than sifting through box after box to find the right mini. (Now I'll just have to make sure I can see them on the shelf).
Below you can see a little bit of the "pillar" I created.
Wow that flash really washes out the colours doesn't it.
