Invasion of Jutland: Skirmish in Christiansfeld
« on: January 29, 2017, 12:15:18 PM »
As a continuation of our WWIII campaign that you can read more about here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=95742.0

We fought a skirmish game in 28mm in stead of the normal 6mm big battles.

As the Soviet advance up through Jutland has been stalled at Kongeċen where the polish troops were not able to maintain a stable crossingpoint. The Soviet leadership is scouting for alternative routes and the possibility to bypass Kongeċen completely. The town of Christiansfeld provides such an opportunity. It had originally been rejected as a route of attack as it is on Unescos list of world Heritage sites and even the Soviet leadership would not risk destroying its old buildings. But now it is beeing considered.

A scouting force with a political officer with operational knowledge of the whole soviet wareffort has been sent to scout ahead of the main force and to judge if it is a possible way of attack. The force has fallen to an ambush and their T-55 has been taken out by an IED from the Danish resistance. Danish regular forces and polish special forces have been sent out to find and recover the lost Commissar and his codebooks.

here are groups of civilians scattered aroud the table each of them could turn out to be either resistance fighters or the Commisar or survivors from the tank.

The game starts with the Soviet forces moving into town. They quickly spot Ole a danish resistance fighter with a hunting rifle.

A Soviet sniper sets up in a house overlooking the main street.

The Danish officer almost stumbles on a russian tank driver and quickly dispatches him.

One of the Danish privates spots a Soviet trooper in the open and takes a shot with his AT-4 but misses.

A Danish private spots the Soviet Commissar hiding in a bombed out building. He takes a pot shot at him and succedes in lightly wounding the Commissar.

The Danish forces move up the main street and keeps the Soviets pinned down with relentless fire.

Ole the resistance fighter keeps the left flank of the Soviet advance pinned down as well.

Suddenly another resistance fighter Brian runs into the street and with his wild gunfire manages to pin down more of the soviet troopers.

The Soviet sniper displaces his position and takes out Ole with a well aimed Headshot. Thus freeing up the Soviet Left flank to advance towards the wounded and pinned commissar.

Despite standing in the middle of the street Brian somehow manages to not only survive but also keep two Soviet troopers pinned.

The Commissar is keeping his head down whilst trying to stop his bleeding. But suddenly he hears the crunching of boots and danish voices.

He crawls to the stairs and unloads a mag from his SMG. He does not do much damage but he forces the Danish troops to keep their distance.

On the main street Brian is finally killed by the combined fire of the two Soviet troopers.

But as the Soviet soldiers have been focusing on taking down Brian the Danish officer has been able to sneak up close to the already wounded soviet soldier. Unfortunately for him his Weapon misfires and he is not able to take out the Soviet trooper, who in without hesitation shoots and kills the danish officer.

The Danish NCO makes a fatal mistake as he pokes his head up from behind the street barricade his head is imediately blow off by the Soviet sniper.

On the left flank the Danish foces are advancing on the house where the Commissar is holed up. But the Soviet officer is also on his way to help.

As a Danish trooper tries to run into the house he is shot and killed by the Soviet officer.

All the noise has drawn out another local. Karl Heinz rushes out of his basement with his trusted shotgun.

But he to is also put down by the Soviet officer.

The Soviet sniper displaces to street level where he takes out a Danish soldier on a rooftop who has been preventing the Soviet officer from advancing further towards the Commissar.

The Soviet leader is taken out by a Danish soldier who rushes him guns blazing.

The Commissar crawls down the stairs and shoots the Danish soldier in the back.

And by the end the last surviving Danish soldier ends up surrendering to the Commissar.

So in the end the Soviet Commissar makes it out not only alive but with a prisoner. The Soviet army has found a way to bypass Kongeċen and to perhaps attack the Danish army in the flank taking the by surprice.

Great report  8)

Would Karl have feared better if he'd worn camo rather than pink?

We ended up using Danger Close. I had originally planned to use Black ops. But I could not really get it to work with the minis I had available.

Hi Dr Zed
:o :o This is excellent on so many levels.

The board looks great, I'm not too much of a fan of MDF but you have made a great job of these, the tell tale finger joints are not so apparent in most of them, very impressed. The roads and especially the pavements look good, are they scratch built?

Best of all I enjoyed the write up, I got a good idea of what was going on from the text describing the pictures, would have been nice to have an overview of the board to get a more general impression of the tactics but the game seemed to flow very well and must have been well balanced to get such a tight finish.

The Resistance guys were they pre planned or more of "an event happens and this is what it is", if that makes sense. They seemed a bit gung ho standing in the middle of the road, but they are decended from Vikings I suppose. lol lol

The railway people also add to the whole as well.

I don't visit this board much - will have to add it to the list.

Cheers

Thanks.
The civilians acted as markers where you had to do a spot test and then we drew random from a deck of cards if it was a resistance fighter or a soviet tanker.

What a fun game to have gotten to play.
Lots of great looking toys.
May I ask about your T-55.
Hard to tell, is it one of the Goldeneye tanks.
It is too cool not to use, even if it is not quite historical.

It is indeed the Goldeneye tank. I have only given it a wash and a drybrush.

Playing a fictional WWIII I am not overly concerned about accuracy.

By popular demand (well one), here is an overhead view of the battlefield. It was taken by a spyplane moments before the T-55 was taken out by an IED a bit further down the road.

Great report. It truely captures the intensity of the game. I really thought I had it in the bag, when most of you troops went down (except for that blasted sniper). Problem is my guys didnt finish them of, so after some very fancy sniperfire I found my self outnumbered by better quality troops.

Danger Close worked really well, especially in a scenario as this one with  lots of specialrules and events. The rules are so simple that you have no problem covering situation as they happen.

Defenitely not the last time we try this out.
