As I'm sure Barry will attest, portions of this state more than superficially resemble Southern Africa. A certain Boer War epic was filmed here many years ago, and that African feeling can be had in places in the Flinders Ranges - but then again, some years ago, while in a different part of that region where pines rather than Eucalypts dominate, my companion, a former Selous scout and member of 32 Battalion who'd spent some time in the American West, told me that the topography strongly reminded him of the Little Big Horn battlefield. And I might also mention that a couple of cinematic Gallipolis have been recreated on our beaches.
