Painting Dark Ages- Blood Eagle
« on: 08 April 2017, 12:40:59 PM »
I am planning to play some Blood Eagle in the future and trying Dark Age gaming on for size.  I didn't have any models for the period until recently but the nature of the rule set interested me and the possibility of recreating Cornwell's Uhtred sucked me in.  Unfortunately I haven't gathered my Saxons yet (fighting ones any way) but I did manage to get a hold of some like History Channel Vikings and thought they would be fun to paint.  I did enjoy the show but their adventures although entertaining didn't feel nearly as epic as Uhtred's tale.  Just the same I'm sure they could have a saga of their own.

There are some optional low fantasy elements included in the game and I''m not sure I could post any of those additions to this project log or not if I chose to add in some fantastic beasts but I'll check the rules for the forum to confirm.  I don't want to ruffle anyone''s feathers and I'm sure I can get enough criticism for representing an Early Saxon with a model in a mail tunic so I probably won't.

Very neat.

I like the plain brown texture on the bases - reminds me of a pine forest with the dead needles.

@AndrewBeasley

You caught me!  I haven't added the foliage yet so they bases are still pretty spartan.  I only sanded the base prior to painting and didn't think it look like much other than dirt under the plant life but it would be awesome if I could get other people to see pine needles or litter on a forest floor dong that.  I'm not sure about Rollo or the others but Floki stalking a primeval forest would be a perfect setting.

@Craig

For sure!  As I work at this group and others to follow I'll continue posting here and probably try to photo bomb FB as well until people get sick of my stuff :D .
